The Album (stylized in all uppercase and also known as BLACKPINK The Album) is the first Korean studio album and second album overall by BLACKPINK, set to be released on October 2nd, 2020.

Background and Release

On May 18, 2020 YG Entertainment revealed BLACKPINK is doing a three part comeback. It will begin in June with the release "How You Like That" and end in September. YG revealed that BLACKPINK had recorded more than 10 new songs and has done production. Their first songs was to be released in Mid-June as a pre-release single. The second song was a new kind of song scheduled for a release in late July or August. Finally their full length album was revealed to be released in September with no exact date.[3].

On July 23, it was revealed BLACKPINK was gearing up for another single in their 3 step comeback after their successful "How You Like That" release. At 9 AM YG dropped a colorful teaser with the girls above and an empty space with the word "Featuring".[4] It is the 2nd part in the 3 step comeback. Reporters also suspected they would collaborate with Selena Gomez, but no official statement had been announced.[5] Later, the song was confirmed to feature American solo artist Selena Gomez, and on the 22nd of August on their Twitter, it was revealed to be titled "Ice Cream".

On July 28, YG dropped a teaser image and the album cover for their long awaited studio album, titled BLACKPINK The Album or THE ALBUM set for release on Oct 2nd, 2020. It will be the final part for their 3-part comeback after "How You Like That" and "Ice Cream".[6]
